As summer comes to an end a new season is upon us. In terms of looking sharp, trendy and stylish I think Autumn Winter is definitely the season for this, coats, boots and a printed scarf screams style like no other. I know all the huge publications and fashion bloggers gave their lowdown on what this season’s trends are months ago but I always like to refresh your memory as we literally go into the season. So here are the biggest trends you need to know about in my Autumn Winter 2015/16 Trend Round up ♥
The 70s Vibe
This is usually a trend we see in the summer months and we did see a lot of the 70s vibe this summer but it is staying for winter as we saw on the catwalks for Chloe, Lanvin and Anna Sui. So keep hold of your flares and think about the 70s from all over the world like DSquared does it.
The Print Mix
This trend goes hand in hand with the 70s vibe as it is very print heavy so if you’re not into prints this may not be the one for you! This is about the glamorous geek as seen on the catwalks of Miu Miu, Chanel and Burberry. Also well-travelled comes to mind incorporating fabrics you would usually associate with the world of interiors aka Lanvin and Missoni.
Legs Out
This has to be one of my favourite trends, when it gets really cold there’s always tights and those Dior over the knee boots…wow! Get your legs out but keep warm with heavily knitted tops, chunky knits and turtlenecks, this was a popular theme for Louis Vuitton, Emilio Pucci and Topshop.
The Darkside
This trend always seems to come back for winter and do you know what? I love it! Lace is my weakness just as it is for Erdem and Valentino. Think goth like and black on black, it’s all about full length dresses and skirts which sweep the floor. Subtle embellishment as seen by Givenchy is acceptable. Obviously the likes of Alexander McQueen and Alexander Wang do this trend well.
Understated Glam
It is true glamorous geeks are somewhat understated glam but if prints are not your thing than maybe this one is. This trend is in complete contrast to legs out, it is all about getting cosy and staying covered up for winter. Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham have some bold styles and silhouettes for this trend.
Sweet and Sexy
Put the leather away for sexy cool this winter, think candy coloured baby doll dresses with an overcoat thrown over as seen by Prabul Gurung and Celine. If that’s not quite your thing than sheer detailing and lots of it aka Valentino will still keep you on trend.
There’s always a couple of looks and fabrics that can work in every trend and this season it is velvet and shine. Yes velvet is back in a big way, for full on tailoring and trousers as seen by Giorgio Armani and Emilio Pucci, it’s a fabric that can be used for many of the above trends. Metallic fabrics and shimmer are also huge this winter which is perfect for the party season, when else is it ok to shine from head to toe?
