‘The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.’ – Yves Saint Laurent
When watching the first series of Mr Selfridge last year, I was amazed that simple powder and rouge as they called it then was pretty much the most make-up women wore. It was only available to buy from pharmacists and there was nothing but shock when Mr Selfridge suggested selling rouge at the perfume counter! To think now, when you walk into the Beauty Hall at Selfridges there are hundreds of blushers on offer. Blush is one of those beauty secrets that can make all the difference, here are my top 5 blushers from some of my favourite make-up brands ♥
Starting with my newest find, I love the Nars blusher in the colour Gilda, it gives a gorgeous sheer look and it’s a buildable product so it can be layered up for the evening. It gives a healthy glow to my skin tone and for me it’s a great subtle coral colour to wear with bright lips without stealing the limelight.
I have raved about this Illamasqua velvet blusher before, in my September beauty favourites and my review of the Sacred Hour Collection. I generally go for powder blushers but Iove the unexpected texture of this product, it is completely matte and looks like a powder once applied. There is hardly any need for highlighter above the cheekbones with this blusher as it gives a radiant look to the skin. Again, this product can be built up to a darker shade of rose or just left as a subtle hint of blush.
I received the HD Brows Blusher in a Glossybox last year and was instantly in love with the pink colour! It is very pigmented and a little goes a long way, even on my darker skin tone. I love the very subtle hint of shimmer and the fact that this lasts for ages, making it one of my top 5 blushers!
Benefit’s Dallas is a blusher I have been using for years, it is my familiar bronze shade and I love it! Many people use it as a bronzer for contouring but for my skin tone it is the perfect natural looking blusher. I love the little brush that comes with it too for perfect application. If you don’t have this blusher, you must try it!
Sleek blushers are highly pigmented, beautifully packaged and surprisingly at bargain prices! I didn’t expect this blusher to last as long as it does purely as it’s only around £5 but I was very pleasantly surprised. A little goes a long way once again and it also has a hint of shimmer. My favourite shade is Sunrise, it is such a gorgeous colour ♥
