The iconic Fortnum & Mason is the 300-year old store in Piccadilly well-known for rich biscuit tins, indulgent cakes and magnificent afternoon teas. The entire store has a very homely feel and this is how it is set out, traffic comes into the ground floor where customers are offered the utmost and richest teas and food. The woman’s boudoir is upstairs, where beauty can take its time and luxury can take it’s course.
The store is not famously known for its fashion heritage, such as Yves Saint Laurent exclusively designing a black dress for the store back in 1963. Anya Hindmarch, Aspinal of London and Philip Treacy are just a few of the designers housed in the store today. The second floor is not like your usual Central London Beauty Hall with all the hustle and bustle of beauty addicts galore, it has a calm atmosphere with a clean look and minimalist approach.
I absolutely adore the fitting room for the loungewear area, it’s so simple but so luxurious. One of my favourite brands has to be Cosmetics à la Carte, which is a bespoke make-up brand. If you have a particular pair of shoes or a top and want the exact lipstick to match then just take it along to the counter and they will make it up for you…genius! All the brands such as Guerlain, Sarah Chapman and Claudalie but to name a few have bespoke or exclusive ranges catered for the Fortnum & Mason clientele. The staff have a wide knowledge of all the brands within the beauty floor, they are not tied down to just one brand.
The fragrance counters bring memories of walking around Emirates Mall, rich scents and luxury packaging. Only the crème de la crème of fragrances are displayed and sold here with exclusive brands to Fortnum & Mason. A particular favourite of mine has to be the 4160 Tuesdays by British perfumer Sarah McCartney, featured in my April favourites.
If you have never left the ground floor of Fortnum & Mason (I understand the difficulty) then now is the time to take the lift up to the second floor and simply indulge in the brand new Fortnum & Mason Beauty Hall , beauty addict or not you will be amazed.
