Philips Lumea Prestige ♥ First Impressions

Today on the blog we are going there, with hair removal. Not many woman like to talk about it but let’s face it, it is a big part of our lives and we all want the easiest, painless and best methods to remove hair from unwanted places on our bodies forever. Apparently, 66% of us who use razors would consider changing our hair removal method if it gave longer lasting results. Well I am definitely in that 66% and that is why I have been trying the Philips Lumea Prestige. My biggest worry was pain, I am not good with pain that is why for certain areas like the bikini line I simply wax. I know this is by no means pain-free, but it is over in seconds! Shaving my legs takes time and has to be done often as well as not having the luxury of spontaneous bare legs, but it is pain-free!

The Philips Lumea Prestige allows us all (well maybe not if you have all blonde hairs) to achieve silky smooth results at home. There is no ‘stubble’ feeling in between treatments and unlike other laser treatments you are able to wax and/or shave in between which makes a huge difference for me as I did not want to start shaving areas that I wax. It comes with three different attachements; body, face and bikini which are pretty self explanatory! When in use the Philips LumeaPrestige applies a pulse of light to the root of your hair which then produces heat and is transferred to the hair follicle. This signals the hair follicle to go into a ‘resting phase’ which stops regrowth and hair sheds naturally after a few days.

Before using it is recommended that you remove hair from the areas you are targeting, if you are doing anything other than shaving then do this 24-48 hours beforehand. I have been using the fabulous BIC Soleil disposable razors and my legs feel smoother than ever! The Philips Lumea Prestige does not hurt at all, you just feel heat but it is not painful. It is definitely more sensitive around the bikini line yes but it is no where near the pain of waxing. Because the Lumea uses IPL and not laser, it targets a larger area of skin so it is quicker, painless and more efficient. The first time it is a bit difficult to get your angle right, especially for the bikini area and back of the thighs. The idea is to put your hair to sleep and it is recommended you use this device every two weeks for the first 4-5 times and then down to once a month for the next 3-4 treatments. Then you may need a quick touch up every few months and the beauty is you have it at home whenever you need it! I have used the Philips Lumea Prestige three times now over the course of six weeks and have noticed the hair on my arms, legs and bikini area growing back much slower and in patches so it definitely seems to be working. My underarms seem to have reacted a lot quicker with very little growth, this could be in effect to laser hair removal I had done in this area six years ago.

One question a lot of people with this device have asked me is about facial hair. Some are scared to use it on their face in case of skin irritation and many are too scared to shave their face beforehand. I have used it on my face and had no irritation at all, I would say I have quite sensitive skin. As for shaving my face, even though so many people do it I was a bit scared too and therefore have not shaved my face. I have continued to thread my upper lip area as normal and then use the device on the area 24 hours later and again I have noticed a huge difference. Around my hairline I have not removed any hair but simply used the Philips Lumea Prestige and hoping the hair will shed itself, for this reason I think reaction has been slower in these areas.

So far I am pleased with the results and will of course report back in a few weeks to let you know if the Philips Lumea Prestige really works! Just to let you know, there will not be before and after pictures of the hair growth on my legs! However, if you have any comments or question about hair removal, the Philips Lumea in particular or the difference between IPL and laser just comment below and I will do my best to help. Please be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter for instant updates that go beyond the blog.
