You may have seen my recent post on products that are worth the splurge and when doing that post it got me thinking about products you don’t have to splurge on. Obviously it is nice to indulge in luxury beauty products but there are a lot of drugstore products I use on a daily basis and special occasions so I thought I would share these products with you.
Starting with the eyes, I find that felt tip eyeliners are the easiest to use and the best ones come from Bourjois and Soap & Glory. They appear in my YouTube videos a lot as they are easy to use, long-lasting and the Bourjois Mega Liner is Ultra Black just as it claims to be. Avon eyeliners should not be ignored either, they are so under-rated.
Mascara is one product I truly believe you do not have to splurge on at all, there are so many amazing mascaras from L’oreal, Bourjois and Maybelline. I particularly love Soap & Glory’s Thick & Fast and Seventeen’s mascaras which are so affordable. Of course it’s nice to have the Dior mascara (of course I do) but mascaras dry out so quickly and if one for under £10 does a better job than why not? If you wear false eyelashes a lot then I argue this case even more.
I don’t talk about eyebrows a lot on my blog at all and in my YouTube videos I skip over the eyebrows. Why? Well here’s my secret, they are so low maintenance I simply use a matte brown eyeshadow from Bourjois (can’t tell you the exact shade as the name has rubbed off) and a firm, fine brush. That’s it! The eyeshadow is just a few pounds and because I only use it for brows it has lasted me for over three years! Sorry if the make-up expiry police are reading! My point is, there are so many thousands of products claiming to give you the best brows but all you really need is a matte brown eyeshadow which you probably already own.
Lip balms are super cheap and I do not believe at all that you need to buy expensive lip treatments, unless you want to but Carmex and Nivea do the job just as well. I do love lipsticks by MAC and NARS but I have found amazing dupes for my favourite shades and I cannot rave about the Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition lipsticks enough! They are perfect in every way.
There are so many amazing lipsticks around, although I do enjoy the luxury brands you don’t have to splurge to find a great lipstick. I love the Avon matte lipsticks and my newly discovered Glo & Ray lipsticks too.
I mentioned the Anastasia Beverley Hills Contour Kit as a product that is worth the splurge and it is but for everyday contouring I stand by the Sleek contour kit. It is fabulous, so affordable and blendable, I am obsessed! Another product I am obsessed with is the NYX setting spray, there are so many setting sprays around and they are good but this NYX one is £7 and keeps my make-up in tact all day and all night.
Nail polish is another product category I not think one needs to splurge on either. I generally have a Shellac base and wear regular polish on top. I think nail polish is about the base coat and how well you look after your nails, sure some polishes are better than others but generally Maybelline, Bourjois and Models Own do fab nail polish ranges and with the added benefits of gel polishes so everyone’s a winner!
There are a lot of luxury haircare brands out there which are lovely to use but I am also quite happy to use the good old L’Oreal Elnett hairspray which is just the best hairspray ever. I also love Lee Stafford’s hair ranges which are so affordable and very pink! I particularly love the Sea Salt Spray, especially in the summer and I use hair mousse a lot always finding that drugstore versions are better.
So there is my quick round-up of products you do not have to splurge on to look and feel good. What are your fabulous beauty products that do not break the bank? I use an eyebrow kit by Collection that cost me just £3! Perfect!
I love it when you find little gems like that!
