Trends from the Golden Globe Awards 2014

The 71st Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday evening, inviting glittering, glamorous stars to the red carpet. There were many Spring Summer trends coming through (post coming soon!) including black statement dresses, metallics and the big 50s skirt dress. The usual designer suspects Dior, Gucci and Oscar De La Renta were popular choices for the red carpet. Let’s take a look at some of the best dresses from the Golden Globe Awards 2014.

The Red Dresses - Amy Adams, Emma Watson and Taylor Swift

Floor sweeping gowns in shades of red were a favourite, Amy Adams chose a Valentino Couture gown with a plunging neckline, a simple up-do and no accessories. Emma Watson always amazes crowds for her impeccable red carpet choice and for this event she stunned everyone with her Dior Couture backless gown. Wearing navy trousers and heels, with bold coloured lips. Taylor Swift looked very 1950s in her Carolina Herrera gown, short curls and bold lips.

Black Statement Dresses - Cate Blanchett, Heidi Klum, Jessica Chastain and Sandra Bullock

Black dresses are always a classic and popular choice for the red carpet, but this year the black dresses were far from classic and more of a statement. Cate Blanchett chose a modern lace Armani Privé gown, leaving the rest of her look very classic. Heidi Klum chose a beautifully floral embroidered dress by Marchesa, with a black statement necklace. Jessica Chastain wore a classic silhouette with detailing making it a statement dress that enhanced her figure. The gorgeous Givenchy dress was styled with a diamond necklace and red nails. Sandra Bullock went for colour block, paring black with candy colours in a dress by Prabal Gurung. Wearing simple black peep toes and hair tied back in a ponytail and brought round to the side, letting her dress do the work.

Kaley-Cuoco-Ran and Sofia Vergara
Ballgowns – Kaley Cuoco and Sofia Vergara

Ballgowns always look stunning on the red carpet and the bigger the better! Apart from your wedding, where else can you wear a dress so big? So go for it, I say! Actress Kaley Cuoco chose a very pretty looking, vintage art inspired (trend alert!) gown by Zakhem Couture, holding a berry coloured clutch and super straight hair to the side. Sofia Vergara’s dress has to be one of my favourites, it’s huge! I love this classic Zac Posen balllgown with a corset top half worn with a aqua statement necklace and very Hollywood looking hair.

Barely There Shades - Michelle Dockery, Zooey Deschanel and Jennifer Lawrence

These three ladies opted for very pale and barely there shades, Michelle Dockery wore a signature Oscar De La Renta gown, fully embroidered and red carpet worthy. Zooey Deschanel went for fairytale sparkle with embellished shoes and blush pink shimmer by Oscar De La Renta. Finishing off her look with a casual side bun and bold red lips. These days Jennifer Lawrence is rarely seen not wearing a Dior Couture gown, for the Golden Globes it’s a white gown with black tape detailing. Her hair, make-up, nails and accessories hinting rock chic.

Metallic Shimmer - Kate Beckinsale, Mila Kunis and Naomi Watts

One of my favourites trends for Spring Summer 2014 has to be metallic shimmer…obviously! I do love a bit of sparkle! I love Kate Beckinsale’s mermaid style dress by Zuhair Murad, with a plunging neckline and minimal accessories. The gorgeous Mila Kunis sparkles in Gucci Premiere and very bold eye make-up. Naomi Watts shimmers subtly from head to toe in a Tom Ford gown and gold accessories.

Baby Bumps - Kerry Washington, Drew Barrymore and Olivia Wilde

An unlikely trend at this year’s Golden Globe Awards seemed to be the baby bumps! Kerry Washington announced her pregnancy on the red carpet, wearing a custom-made Balenciaga gown. Drew Barrymore looked very summery and pretty (trend alert!) in a floral Monique Lhuillier gown, sweeping the floor behind her accessorised with bright orange heels and a metallic clutch. Olivia Wilde shows that you can still sparkle with a baby bump, adding to her glow wearing a fully embellished Gucci Gown.
